Thank You to Our Veterans — Especially Our Own, Col. Ron Maxson
Today, on Veterans Day, we pause to honor the brave men and women who have worn our country’s uniform — and the families who have stood faithfully beside them.
Their courage, sacrifice, and patriotism remind us of the transcendent value of every human life and the freedom that allows us to defend it. Because of their willingness to serve, future generations can live in liberty and hope.
At Life Legal, we hold a special place in our hearts for our own heroic veteran, Col. Ron Maxson (U.S. Army Ret.), co-founder of the organization. It is in no way excessive to compare Col. Maxson to such icons as Audie Murphy. To abbreviate, and omit mention of ordinary service and campaign awards, Col. Maxson received the Bronze Star twice, with Valor; the Silver Star twice; the Purple Heart; the Distinguished Flying Cross; the Air Medal with 42 Oak Leaf Clusters and with Valor; and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm. And I’m pretty sure I’m leaving something out.
Col. Maxson was recommended for the Congressional Medal of Honor but ultimately did not receive it. This is where Audie Murphy outdid him.
The V for Valor added to medals mentioned above indicates occasions on which the recipient risked his life to rescue comrades. When Col. Maxson returned to civilian life, he went right on saving lives through his participation in the pro-life movement. His leadership was especially recognized during the mass rescue movement of the late 1980s and early 1990s. He was arrested for non-violent direct action so many times, and in so many venues, that it was once suggested he publish a Guide to the Prisons of North America with star ratings for the accommodations.
Col. Maxson’s courage and conviction continue to inspire us daily as we work every day to defend the innocent and to uphold the dignity of every human person.
To all veterans, active-duty service members, and military families:
Thank you for your service, your sacrifice, and your support for the most fundamental right — the right to life.
May God bless you and your families.
May God bless all who serve.
And may God bless the United States of America.
