She offered a mom compassion. Now she’s facing criminal charges.

Two weeks ago Sarah*, a pro-life volunteer, did what sidewalk counselors do every day: she gently reached out to a young mom who believed abortion was her only option. Moments later, she was accused of battery and handed a criminal citation.

Here’s what happened. A young mother pulled into a public parking lot, far from the clinic entrance. Sarah approached her only after receiving the woman’s permission. They spoke for several minutes. The mom admitted she felt pressured to have an abortion and had no real support. Sarah reassured her that she wasn’t alone—that resources and people stood ready to help her choose life.

Then a clinic escort rushed over, shouting over Sarah to drown out her words of encouragement. As the mom started her car and pulled toward the clinic, Sarah stepped back to get out of the way. In doing so, she slightly bumped the escort. The escort immediately claimed Sarah had intentionally shoved her and called the police.

The officers on scene saw through the claim—one even thanked Sarah for being there. Yet unbelievably, she was still issued a criminal citation for battery and ordered to appear in court today.

This is exactly why Life Legal exists. When peaceful pro-life volunteers are harassed, silenced, and dragged into court for speaking the truth, we step in. We are providing legal defense for Sarah—but we cannot do it without you.

Please make a gift today to help those like Sarah who risk everything to protect mothers and their children.

Your support ensures that no pro-life advocate ever stands alone in the face of harassment and false charges. Because of you, Life Legal can keep showing up on the sidewalk, in the courtroom, and wherever lives are at stake.
