Every Closed Clinic Is a Victory—But the Battle Has Shifted
Take a moment to rejoice: Planned Parenthood centers are closing all across the country!
The abortion giant has already shuttered 25 facilities, including five in “deep-blue” California. Dozens more in Michigan, Utah, and other states are following suit—and Planned Parenthood has warned that up to 200 clinics may ultimately close. Let’s pray they make good on that threat!
The recent “One Big Beautiful Bill,” which cuts off federal funding to Planned Parenthood, is a welcome step forward. But here’s the truth: many of these clinics were already on the path to closure—because abortion is no longer tied to a brick-and-mortar building.
The abortion industry has moved from the exam room to the bedroom.
Today, roughly two-thirds of U.S. abortions are chemical abortions. Since the FDA removed the in-person visit requirement in January 2023, the abortion pill regimen—mifepristone and misoprostol—can be shipped directly to a woman’s home, often with no in person or even video consultation.
Now, women can get abortion pills by text. Virtual abortion mills like Hey Jane, Choix, and others advertise that a woman can fill out a short form, exchange a few messages, and have the drugs mailed to her doorstep—sometimes the same day. There’s no age verification, no ultrasound, no confirmation of gestational age, no screening for ectopic pregnancy—nothing.
This has transformed the abortion landscape:
- Abortion clinic traffic has plummeted. “Last Friday, for the first time, there were none…” wrote Life Legal board member John Madigan, who regularly prays outside his local Planned Parenthood. John initially hoped this meant fewer women were having abortions—until he realized that abortions were now happening at home. (Read John’s article in Crisis Magazine here.)
- Abortions are increasingly invisible. Women can terminate pregnancies without leaving home, and many are now stockpiling pills for future use. Unless required by law, abortionists do not track how many women actually take the pills they order. And the states with the laxest abortion laws do not report their numbers to the CDC, making the death toll nearly impossible to measure.
- Only later-term abortions require a clinic. Surgical abortions are now mostly limited to the second and third trimester, meaning brick and mortar clinics serve a shrinking niche.
Planned Parenthood doesn’t need as many buildings—because abortion is now available in every home.
And as we’ve said before, in every state, it is perfectly legal for women to order, receive, and ingest abortion pills.
While we celebrate every closed clinic and every dollar cut from Planned Parenthood, the fight to end abortion is not over. The battlefield has moved online.
That is why we are working closely with pregnancy centers and pro-life partners to:
- Equip pregnancy centers to reach women before they click “order” on abortion pills and to offer APR when there’s still a chance to save a life
- Hold abortion providers accountable when women are injured or abandoned after at home abortions
- Challenge the FDA’s reckless policies that put women and children at risk
Your support is saving lives and exposing the truth.
Thank you for standing with us. Keep rejoicing—and keep praying.
