Pro-life advocate James Cook was standing on a public sidewalk in Buffalo, New York—peacefully offering help to women entering a Planned Parenthood.

He wasn’t blocking the entrance. He wasn’t disrupting operations.

He was doing what the Constitution protects: exercising free speech on public property.

But then the police showed up. Citing a decades-old court order from a case that James was not a party to, they threatened to arrest James unless he stood at least 15 feet away from every entrance to the facility.

We immediately moved to defend James, challenging the officers’ interpretation of the law so James could get back to offering help and hope to women outside the death mill. 

But the story isn’t over. James is still being harassed, and we are now working to hold law enforcement and the abortion facility accountable for trampling his First Amendment rights.
