Life Legal is demanding answers.

On October 22, 2025, a peaceful pro-life outreach on a California college campus ended with one of our team members being assaulted and dragged across the pavement by a large masked man. 

A team from California Right to Life—an outreach of Life Legal Defense Foundation—was doing exactly what college campuses are supposed to encourage: engaging in civil dialogue and the free exchange of ideas.

The outreach had been peaceful and uneventful. As the event wrapped up, the team was getting ready to leave when two masked men approached. They asked Catherine “Thrin” Short and an intern, who were still holding their signs, whether they were part of the pro-life group.

When the two answered yes, one man grabbed a sign and fled. The other man tried to do the same, but Thrin hung on to the sign and ended up being draggedalong the ground before the man finally let go and ran off. 

The assailant was initially arrested for robbery. But more than six months later, no charges have been filed. 

Instead, our team has been given the runaround.

Why has the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office failed to act?

This was not an ambiguous situation. It was not even a heated debate. It was an unprovoked physical assault resulting in injuries.  What message does this send to other students if this type of violence on campus—or anywhere—is allowed to go unpunished? 

Life Legal is demanding answers.

More than six months have passed, and we are concerned that no charges appear to have been filed.

Could you please tell me the current status of the case, and why there has been such a long delay?

Pro-life advocates have the right to speak peacefully on campus without being assaulted, dragged across concrete, or robbed of their signs.

If this case is ignored, it will only embolden those who believe physical intimidation is an acceptable response to pro-life speech.

We cannot allow that to happen.
