The Next Battles for Life Are Heating Up

With the new year underway, I’ve been thinking about what’s ahead—and aboutpeople like you who make it possible for Life Legal to keep showing up when it matters most.

There’s no easy way to say this: the pressure on innocent human life is growing, not easing. Much of what’s coming will play out at the state level, where the stakes couldn’t be higher.

In the year ahead, Life Legal will continue to fight for the pro-life “little guy”—the unborn child, the vulnerable patient, the parent pushed aside, and the advocate who finds themselves needing legal protection simply for speaking up. When lives are on the line, we will go where we are needed, including into court, to defend those who cannot defend themselves.

This year, abortion-related ballot measures are already certified or actively advancing in seven states: Missouri and Nevada, where measures are confirmed for the ballot, and Idaho, Montana, Nebraska, Oregon, and Virginia, where initiatives are underway and expected to advance. These state battles will shape the law for years—sometimes generations—to come.

These amendments are often written in vague or misleading language, but their effect is clear. Several would strip away long-standing protections for unborn children, allowing abortion through all nine months of pregnancy. Once those protections are gone, the consequences are immediate and hard to undo.

Many of these proposals would also remove parents from deeply consequential decisions, allowing abortions to take place without parental knowledge or consent. Life Legal will be there—educating citizens, helping advocates speak clearly about what’s at stake, and working to ensure people understand what these amendments truly mean for their state, their families, and their communities.

Scripture reminds us:

“Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
—Joshua 1:9

That verse feels especially fitting as we step into this year. There is real work ahead and real battles to be fought—but with God’s help and your continued support, Life Legal will keep standing in the gap, defending life when it matters most.
