Life Legal affiliated attorneys were in court yesterday on behalf of Josh Barras, a disabled man whose wife Maegan sought to cause his death by dehydration.
Josh suffered a brain injury three years ago that left him dependent on a feeding tube for nutrition and hydration. He has been living in a long-term care facility since then. Josh can breathe on his own and is responsive.
Over a year ago, Maegan announced that she wanted to take Josh home on hospice care without food and water.
She then exploited Josh’s condition to create a TikTok empire of over 1 million followers. Maegan used that audience to raise tens of thousands of dollars, ostensibly for Josh’s care, but hardly any of that money went to his medical expenses. At the request of our attorneys, Maegan was ordered to submit financial records to the court showing she had gambled away nearly $300,000 since 2019.
Life Legal has represented Josh’s mother, Kelly Barras, in her battle to obtain guardianship of Josh so she can get her son the treatment he so desperately needs.
Yesterday the judge temporarily removed Maegan as Josh’s guardian and named Kelly as his “curator” or guardian in her place, pending a final ruling. The judge also urged Josh’s court-appointed attorney to expedite divorce filings.
We anticipate that Kelly will be named as Josh’s permanent guardian once the divorce is finalized.
Please pray for Josh’s recovery and for Kelly as she seeks treatment for Josh.
Thank you for standing with Life Legal as we fight for people like Josh, who are threatened with death by starvation and dehydration solely because they are disabled. In any other context, starving and dehydrating someone to death would be criminal, but this often is the means by which people with brain injuries and other disabilities are eliminated when they become “inconvenient.”

Congrats Kelly and Josh
I am so thankful that Josh can now get the help he needs and his mother can continue to fight for his life back. God is so good and thank you to the wonderful lawyers who helped Kelly and Josh get here. Much love from Georgia
Thank you for saving Josh Barras from Maegan, she continues to post on TT, and should go to jail for her scams using Joshs story to get it
Thank you! Thank you Thank you for helping to save this man’s life!
