Victory! City of Redding Admits Its Mistake

For months, Life Legal Defense Foundation has been standing up for pro-life advocate Chad Hunt, who was wrongfully targeted for his peaceful outreach outside an abortion business in Redding, California.

Chad didn’t even know there was an order against him. Following an incident involving a false accusation against Chad by a clinic escort on September 25, police came but did nothing more than talk to both sides. No one wanted to press charges. More than a month later, however,  on October 30, an officer handed Chad a stack of papers—one of which, buried inside, contained a stay-away order he had never seen. When the same officer returned an hour later, Chad was arrested for violating that order.

The officer refused to let Chad give his keys to a friend and instead had his truck towed and impounded, even though it was legally parked. Life Legal filed a claim to recover the improper towing and storage charges — and the City of Redding has now agreed to pay them, acknowledging its mistake.

The Hunt case is part of a much larger fight. Life Legal is defending Chad in a separate case brought by the abortion clinic itself — a case that challenges whether abortion providers can misuse laws meant to prevent violence to silence peaceful expression near abortion facilities.

This case involves a pro-life advocate whose constitutional rights were violated while engaging in peaceful outreach, and it raises a question that affects every American:
Can we still speak freely for those who cannot speak for themselves?

Life Legal’s attorneys have filed an appeal challenging the court order obtained by the clinic. A strong ruling here could reaffirm vital protections for sidewalk counseling and prayer, ensuring that peaceful pro-life advocacy — Free Speech— remains protected under the law.

Your prayers, advocacy, and generosity make these victories possible. Because of you, we can continue to defend the voiceless — and ensure that truth and justice prevail.
