A New Day for Life: Key Victories from Trump’s First Week

I am excited to share some extraordinary pro-life achievements from President Trump’s first week in office. His administration has taken bold, decisive steps to protect the sanctity of life and to right the wrongs of previous policies that undermined the dignity of the unborn.

Here’s a look at the key highlights from this historic week:

  1. Reinstating the Mexico City Policy: On January 24, President Trump reinstated the Mexico City Policy, ensuring that U.S. taxpayer dollars will not fund international organizations that promote or perform abortions. This decisive step redirects funds toward life-affirming initiatives and sets a strong global example of pro-life leadership.
  2. Enforcing the Hyde Amendment: Through an executive order, President Trump reaffirmed the Hyde Amendment, ensuring that federal funds will not be used for elective abortions. This policy protects taxpayers from subsidizing the abortion industry and reaffirms the government’s commitment to protecting life.
  3. Withdrawing from the World Health Organization (WHO): President Trump announced the United States’ withdrawal from the WHO, which promotes abortion under the guise of “healthcare.” This bold step prevents U.S. dollars from funding a global organization that has actively pushed abortion as a so-called “human right.”
  4. Releasing Pro-Life Advocates from Prison: President Trump pardoned several pro-life advocates who had been unjustly imprisoned under the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act. (See below for statement about Herb Geraghty’s release.) These individuals were targeted for peacefully standing up for the unborn, and their release sends a powerful message that pro-life advocacy should not be criminalized.
  5. Investigating the Weaponization of the FACE Act: The administration has launched an investigation into the past misuse of the FACE Act to disproportionately target pro-life advocates. This vital step aims to restore fairness, protect free speech, and ensure that those who peacefully stand for life are no longer unjustly prosecuted.
  6. Rejoining the Geneva Consensus Declaration: Secretary of State Marco Rubio has directed the United States to immediately rejoin the Geneva Consensus Declaration, an international pact that emphasizes there is no international right to abortion and underscores the importance of protecting life and family. This move aligns the U.S. with other nations committed to preserving human dignity.
  7. Addressing the March for Life: Vice President J.D. Vance delivered a heartfelt message to participants of the annual March for Life, affirming the administration’s steadfast commitment to the pro-life cause, saying, “We stand with the most vulnerable and the basic principle that people exercising the right to protest on behalf of the most vulnerable should never have the government go after them ever again.”

These actions demonstrate the new administration’s dedication to advancing the pro-life cause and protecting human dignity. While we celebrate these victories, the fight to protect life is far from over. Click here to see where we are focusing next.

*Herb Geraghty, a pro-life advocate who was sentenced to 27 months in federal prison for violating FACE in Washington DC, did not request a presidential pardon. In fact, Herb specifically asked to remain in detention to preserve the opportunity for an appeal. Despite this request, Herb was released from prison.
