What’s next for life?
Idaho voters have defeated Proposition 1! With about 56 percent voting no in preliminary returns, Idaho rejected a ballot initiative that would have created a right to abortion in state law. Idaho’s protections for preborn children remain in place.
Through our Read Between the Lies campaign, Life Legal helped voters look past the slogans and understand what Proposition 1 would actually do. I so appreciate the Cogency team who worked tirelessly to get our message out. And I’m especially thankful for all of YOU for sharing our materials, praying, and supporting this effort. You made the case for life and today we have a victory to celebrate.
Unfortunately, the election results were not as promising across the nation. Democrats won control of the U.S. House and Senate, and they have pledged to force federal abortion legislation to a vote. We know what that will look like. The Women’s Health Protection Act, the cornerstone of the Democratic platform, would create a federal statutory right to abortion, overriding state laws that prohibit abortion before viability. It would also keep states from protecting babies even after viability in most circumstances.
We’ll be watching what the new Congress does and will keep you informed about what it would mean for the laws that protect preborn children. And we’ll let you know how you can make your voice—and the voices of innocent babies—heard.
For today, I hope you’ll join me in giving thanks for what we were able to accomplish for LIFE in Idaho. Thank you for standing with us.
