Respectful conversation met with violence
They were doing exactly what college campuses are supposed to encourage: civil dialogue and the free exchange of ideas.
Instead, they were attacked.
Recently, a team from California Right to Life—an outreach of Life Legal Defense Foundation—was conducting a peaceful pro-life outreach on a California college campus. Our staff and interns had just finished calmly engaging with students and sharing the truth about abortion when two large, masked individuals suddenly approached them.
The men asked if they were pro-life. When our team answered yes, the situation escalated.
Without warning, the men began ripping signs out of an intern’s hands. When another team member refused to let go of her signs, the confrontation turned physical.
One masked man fled with stolen signs. The other continued to struggle with our team member—dragging her across the concrete and causing injuries.
Her “crime”? Speaking for life.
This is the reality on too many campuses today. When the truth about abortion is spoken, dialogue is replaced with mob tactics. Debate is shut down. And the very institutions that claim to champion “tolerance” show none for those who defend unborn children.
But here is what matters most:
our team was not silenced.
They recovered the signs. They stood their ground. And they will return—to that campus and others across California—because fear cannot be allowed to win, and the pro-life voice cannot be driven from the public square.
In fact, California Right to Life is moving forward with plans for another internship and continued campus outreach. These young advocates have not been deterred. They remain committed to engaging students with truth, courage, and peaceful witness—no matter the opposition.
Life Legal is already providing legal representation to the California Right to Life team to ensure those responsible are held accountable—and to defend the fundamental right to speak for life on campus before these kinds of assaults become the norm.
